India American Cultural Association (IACA) celebrated the 67th Republic Day of India with the hoisting of the national flag and a cultural program in the presence of community members, consulate staff and media. Consul General Nagesh Singh was the guest of honor. Mr Ravi Singh Chairman IACA introduced the chief Guest of the evening.The National Anthem was sung by children from Bal Vihar led by Ms Neetu Sharma In his brief address, Consul General Singh said,IACA as the oldest organisation for Indian diaspora had the responsibility of bringing together members of all 300 local and small associations and groups- to absorb provincial identities in a greater Indian identity- United the community will have a greater voice, and be politically and socially recognized and empowered.
IACA president Rina Gupta welcomed the crowd to kick-start the celebrations. “The Republic Day of India marks the time when India embarked on a journey towards a destiny of its own choosing-much like how we would like this event to start IACA’s journey towards its own destiny,” President Gupta said in her remarks. “Just like India’s future was shaped by our leaders and compatriots, I appeal to IACA’s leaders and members to shape our future.”
New life members introduced by Anoop Kapoor (Board Director) they included Mr Dhananjay Gupta, Mr Amritpal Singh (Lada) Bedi, Dr. Indran Indrakrishnan, Mr Pratap Singh Chauhan, Mr Kapil Bhandari and Mr Ravi Chander. Life Member plaques were handed over by Consul General Mr Nagesh Singh.
