Sankranti (the day Sun enters the constellation of Makara, Capricorn Zodiac), in the month of Makara is celebrated as an auspicious day and the beginning of the Uttarayana Punyakala. In South India it is celebrated as the Harvest festival Pongal, where special Pongal dish is cooked. Sweets, sugarcane, sesame seed, coconut mixture is shared with friends and families. It is a joyous time for young moms and kids to dress up and meet all the relatives and friends.
Wish you all very Happy Sankranti and Pongal! Pongal or Sakranti event is celebrated by Indian associations and at homes across USA.

A general body meeting of IACA will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 15, 2013 at the IACA, 1281 Cooper Lake Road, Smyrna, GA 30082; to go over the agenda items indicated below and to elect the following office bearers for the year 2014.
1. Executive committee: President, Exec. Vice President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer
2. Board of Directors*: Four members for three-year term each + one member for 1 year (vacancy)
3. Managing committee: Three members for a term of two years each, and three members for a term of one year each
As per the existing bylaws, the current President is automatically elected on the IACA Board of Directors for a period of one year. If the current President chooses to run again for the post of President, there will be an election for additional position of Board of Director for 1 year.
If there is no quorum at this GBM, the bylaws require that a second meeting be called. This second GBM meeting will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2013 2:00 PM with the agenda being the same as this GBM. Please refer to web site www.iacaatl.org for the election results or information about the second meeting.
Please bring picture ID and other supporting documents to enable the voting committee to establish valid membership. If the documentation as required by the IACA Constitution and Bylaws are not provided, you shall not be allowed to vote.

17th Festival of India was celebrated in its regular grandeur at the Gwinnett Center to commemorate 67th Independence Day of India. The 2 day festivities was well attended by both Indian and mainstream communities, culminating in a speech by Padmabhushan Anna Hazare, the most popular social activist who is crusading against corruption in India.

Swami Adhyatmananda will be speaking at IACA during India Independence day celebration, on the topic “India after 66 years of independence” Swami Ji is the spiritual head and president of Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad and a beloved disciple of the most revered H H Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj. Swami Ji is a communicator par excellence. It is always a treat to listen to Swami Ji. He is a dynamic yogi, having a multifaceted, magnetic and versatile personality. He has spoken at many institutions of international repute. This is an opportunity not to be missed. Make your plans to come to IACA as early as possible.
